The Tzouanakis Intermediate M.A.T.H. team placed second in their division at the recent local competition and fourth in the state overall.

South Putnam Central Elementary recently hosted 16 teams in the annual Indiana Association of School Principals' Regional M.A.T.H. competition, sponsored by Purdue and Indiana State Universities. Over 5,000 students in grades 4,5, and 6 from around the state competed in the 13th annual Math Academic Teams for Hoosiers competition on Tuesday, March 10, 2009.

Several area schools competed in the competition, which is an attempt to focus on the importance of mathematics in upper elementary grades. The scores from the local regionals are then used to determine placement in the state level competition.

Tzouanakis Intermediate, which placed 2nd in Class Three, was also recognized at the state level, placing 4th in their division.

Central Elementary, the Class 2 champion, also placed 7th in the state.

Both of these schools will be awarded certificates honoring their top 10 finishes.
