Carl D. Barker, 81, of Greencastle, died on Monday, March 23, 2009.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1927 in Montgomery County to Grover and Bessie Bymaster Barker. He attended grade school at New Maysville and high school at Bainbridge.

Mr. Barker served his country in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. Upon return from the navy, he worked for Stringer Ice Cream Company in Danville, and then became a salesman for Moorman Feed Company, and accepted a position as circulation manager for the Indianapolis Star -- News, retiring from there after 20 years.

After retirement he opened Barker's Auto Sales, introducing custom vans to Greencastle. Upon selling this business, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Fillmore United Methodist Church.

His parents; a granddaughter, Jana Barker; twin great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Kendall Hornick; siblings Lorna Servies, Loyd Barker, Lola Plunkett, Lawrence Barker, Wain Barker, Ralph Barker, Edna Long, Bennie Barker, Letha Marie Barker and Freda Louise Barker preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Crystal Day Barker; children, Terry Barker and wife Jay of Brownsburg, Rodney Barker and wife Sue of Avon, Deanna Weeks and husband Gene of Brigham City, Utah and Jeffrey Barker and wife Joanna of Cloverdale; a foster daughter, Tish Greenlee and husband Deloss of Fillmore; a brother, Kenneth Barker and wife Pat of Fort Myers, Fla.; sister-in-law Helen Barker of Peru; five grandsons, Ryan Barker and wife Jennifer, Tyler Weeks and wife Christina, Jason Barker and wife Julie, Scott Barker and Chance Weeks; six granddaughters, Rebecca Hines and husband Darrick, Heather Millhorn and husband Chris, Lindsey LaBerge and husband John, Robin Barker, Melinda Barker and Kristi Yates and husband Jay; ten great-grandchildren, Mackenzee Hornick, Maycee Hornick, Kenlee Hines, Abbie Millhorn, Merick Millhorn, Jace Yates, Ransom Yates, Kayden Weeks, Xander Weeks and Landen Weeks; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday Chandler--Hays Funeral Home, 4 North Percy L. Julian Drive, with the Rev. Dr. Bryan Palmer Smith officiating. Burial with honors will follow at New Providence Cemetery.

Calling will be from noon until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
