Be a real guitar hero

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

On April 17, the Owen Valley High School band will be hosting a battle of the bands. It's like Guitar Hero, only real.

The competition is open to any bands looking for some exposure and a chance at a $400 cash prize. It will take place at 6 p.m. in the OVHS gym.

Bands should come prepared with their own equipment and plenty of fans to vote them to victory. Winners will be determined by a fan vote. Each vote costs $1, and there is no limit to the number of times any fan can vote.

Besides the winning prize, the winning team will have a chance to come back on stage for an encore performance at the end of the evening. They will also get four free hours of studio time at Stable Studios in Brazil.

Entry fee for the competition is $50. The second place band will receive its entry fee back.

Each band will have 20 minutes to set up its equipment and perform. Students will be on hand to assist with setting up and tearing down. Bands will be randomly drawn for order of appearance.

Interested bands should go to www.owenvalleyband.blogspot.com to download an entry form. Contact Dominic Thompson at dthompson@socs.k12.in.us or 812-829-2266 ext. 330 for more details.

Entries must be postmarked by April 3.
