Man sentenced to 63 years

Saturday, April 25, 2009

A Greencastle man has been sentenced in Putnam County Circuit Court to 63 years for child molesting.

Terrell Britton, 53, was convicted of two counts of Class A felony child molesting and one count of Class D felony dissemination of matter harmful to a minor. He received 30-year sentences with 25 years executed and five years suspended on both Class A felonies and three years with credit for 317 days already served on the Class D felony.

The sentences will run concurrently.

In addition, Britton was deemed a sexually violent predator. When he is released from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and be on G.P.S. monitoring.

Britton was originally charged with six Class A felonies, six Class D felonies and two Class A misdemeanors for his involvement in sexual activities with four minors. He was sentenced under the terms of a plea agreement.

Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter said Britton's age and health problems would make it so he was effectively incarcerated "for most of the remainder of his life."

Britton was arrested on June 12, 2008, and has been in jail ever since. According to court documents, the criminal sex acts committed by Britton occurred between November 2007 and the spring of 2008.

  • Thank Goodness! Must of had some good evidence to warrant such a sentence in Putnam County. People do not plead to these kinds of charges unless they are guilty. This freak will never be able to harm another child again! Good Job Bookwalter. I just hope over-crowding or some parole board down the line doesn't let this freak out. Maybe the kids can come to some kind of terms with this and make something of their lives. He has manipulated too many people for too long, maybe now their eyes will be open. Good job Putnam County Prosecutors office and the judge for not giving him a slap on the wrist!

  • FINALLY TRUE JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED . I think that the Courts and Everyone involved has done a GREAT GREAT JOB Thank You Putnam County. Finally no one EVER EVER has to worry about this non-human person ever hurting a young child again. Being 53 and doing 25 straight puts him at 78..A Violet Sexual Predator, after that if he makes it? A sign in his yard forever and a GPS,I love that..Track the terror.Hey maybe they will just tatto his forehead that says MOLESTER. But for 25 years we won't have to worry.

There are a couple of mentally challengde people that still believe he is innocent, but if he had not taken the PLEA he would have done 420 years. If I would have been innocent, I would not have taken the Plea. That tells you he is guilty. Master Liar and Master-Manipultor. Hope he can use those skills in the BIG-HOUSE.

(graydog why do they keep erasing you, I think everyone should be able to speak their mind.

Our Family and the other familes involved are very HAPPY. But will the kids ever live a normal life after all the harmful things this sick man has tought them?

Master-Manipultor , his mind is nothing but poison.

Once Again THANK YOU PUTNAM COUNTY.

  • Also to the Banner Graphic What a wonder job you have done keeping the people informed. You all have done a wonderful job, regardless of what some people think and say. If it weren't for you and your great reporters, The Community wouldn't know about these mentally bent people. Keep up the good work. If it weren't for you protecting and serving we wouldn't have known about this.

    Thank You Again

  • As was said on a different story: Bottom line, a plea bargain is someone trying to get off easy because they're ADMITTING GUILT. Innocent people would fight such a charge.

  • 12 1/2 years is fine, considering his new home and friends. That's a lifetime for baby rapers.

When he gets released he will have to register as a VIOLENT SEXUAL PREDITOR, yes VILOENT. Because not only does he take advantage of small children he also threatened to harm them. That's why we have ZACHARY's LAW. If for some reason he gets released even earlier than the 12 1/2, you will be able to find him and his friends on

Everyone should know about this. So please bookmark this page and use it in the future.
