New information to be presented to public

Thursday, May 14, 2009

New information regarding the case of a former South Putnam High School teacher and coach is slated for presentation to the South Putnam school board during its Monday meeting.

Kim Fidler, an Indiana State Teacher's Association representative, confirmed she will be in attendance and has requested a place on the board's agenda.

An ISTA investigation began with the resignation of Harold Campbell. Campbell said he was forced to resign in February after some serious allegations were made against him. He also contends a proper investigation was not conducted before SPHS principal Kieth Puckett requested his resignation.

Campbell has chosen to take his case to ISTA, a voluntary union that addresses issues for teachers.

Fidler noted the public is welcome to attend, especially concerned parents. She will be on hand to answer any questions or take any comments from members of the crowd.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the art room of Central Elementary.

  • I WILL BE THERE, NOT ONLY TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR COACH CAMPBELL, BUT I WANT TO THE SCHOOL BOARD TO ACKNOWLEDGE THINGS NEED CHANGED AT THIS SCHOOL, LIKE THE DRESS CODE, LAST YEAR A KID GOT SENT HOME TO CHANGE HIS JEANS WITH A LITTLE HOLE, YOU COULDN'T EVEN PUT YOUR FINGER IN THE HOLE, THIS HOLE WAS JUST ABOVE THE KNEE AND YET GIRLS RUN AROUND THE SCHOOL AFTER HOURS WITH THIER SHORTS SO SHORT YOU CAN ALMOST SEE THEIR REAR ENDS AND WEARING STRAPLESS DRESSES TO THE SPORTS AWARDS BUT THAT'S OK AND A LITTLE HOLE IS NOT, THIS IS JUST ONE LITTLE THING THAT BUGS ME AND I KNOW THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF MORE IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE EDUCATION, ONLY IF YOUR KIDS ARE SMART DOES SP PROVIDE A GOOD EDUCATION, OTHER WISE THEY PUT YOU IN DUMB MATH OR STUPID ENGLISH AND THAT IS WHAT THE TEACHERS AND STUDENTS CALL IT, HOW DOES THAT ENCOURAGE A KID? I JUST KNOW THAT I AM SICK OF THE WAY THINGS ARE HANDLED AT SOUTH, THE KIDS CALL IT A PRISON.

  • Sorry to hear your feelings senior'08, however I agree with you that everyone that is able to attend should. However I hope that other parents of Mr. Campbell's students come to the meeting as well and talk about how they did hardly anything in that class. I hope they talk about how there was only one test the whole last semster, about how thankful they are now that their kids are learning and attempting to put a whole year into just a few short months. Yes there are the athletes that love Mr. Campbell, however sports are the #1 focus at South Putnam and I for one am very thankful that my child is now learning and not being put off so that the athletes can hang around his desk having fun. Parents please speak up. Education needs to be the #1 focus and teachers need to be teachers in the classroom even if they are a coach outside of the classroom.
