The Buck Stops Here

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

In an attempt to discover how inaccurate tax rates for the GCSC system came to be published in a legal advertisement in the Banner Graphic, a follow-up inquiry was conducted. An article on the subject reported that Superintendent Robert Green and treasurer Nancy Marlow had discovered the rates published had been too low. Through subsequent discussions with Green, it was learned that a clerical error by GCSC resulted in an inaccurate version of the tax rates being provided to county officials and their ultimate publication to the public. True to the motto on his desk, "The buck stops here," made famous by a hero of Green's, President Harry S. Truman, Green readily acknowledged GCSC's error in the matter and noted he will be addressing the issue at the next session of the school board.
