Philip Maurice Coleman, 66, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., passed away May 12 at Plantation General Hospital due to complications from a sudden illness.

Phil was born in Indianapolis and grew up in Mooresville. He graduated from Mooresville High School in 1960 and Milligan College in 1966. His first job after graduation was teaching at Mooresville High School, for two years where he told everyone how much he enjoyed being back at MHS.

He was one of two children born to Richard and Irene Coleman and is survived by his mother Mabel Irene and younger brother Richard Jay.

Phil loved and enjoyed the time he spent with his nieces Sara, Amy, Emily, and sister-in-law Marlene; they will miss his wonderful smile, support and positive attitude along with countless friends, family and yes ... one of his best friends, his "Monet."

Phil enjoyed South Florida and loved living on the inter-coastal, beaches and sun, all reasons for Phil to be outside with his many friends, and enjoy the many out of state friends and family who visited regularly. Phil's extreme passion for Duke University basketball will be remembered by all, and everyone knew they had better not call when a game was being played.

A Memorial Service will be held for family and friends at Roachdale Christian Church, 1 Walnut Street, at 1 p.m. on June 27.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in his name be sent to Roachdale Christian Church.

Servies & Morgan Funeral Home in Roachdale is entrusted with the arrangements.
