Wendell Wayne Thomas, 94, Greencastle died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Putnam County Hospital.

He was born Feb. 20, 1915 in Parke County the son of Frank S. Thomas and Hazel Fern Wood Thomas.

He served his county during World War II as a 1st Class Seabee and was discharged in 1946. On January 19, 1947, he married Irma Lorean Stallcop Thomas and she survives.

Wendell graduated from the Indiana Barbers College and he opened his own business in Greencastle, appropriately named Thomas Barber Shop. He served his clientele for more than 49 years.

In 1992, he and "Rean" decided to move to Bradenton, Fla., where they had previously spent the winter months. They lived in Bradenton for 15 years. While there, they attended the Central Christian Disciples of Christ Church. Wendell was baptized there and they both were very active in church activities.

In 2007, they moved back to Greencastle and have been residents of Asbury Towers since that time. In the past, he and Rean enjoyed square dancing and he built accessories for her china dolls. He always enjoyed taking walks, bike riding and most of all lending a helping hand to others.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eva Benedict.

Survivors include his wife Irma Lorean Thomas of Greencastle; one son Frank Thomas and wife Traci of Mattawan, Mich.; two granddaughters, Kassandra Thomas of Atlanta, Ga., and Brooke L. Thomas of Mich.; and other extended family.

Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at French Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Champion officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
