Michael "Mikie" W. Kester

Michael "Mikie" Wayne Kester, 26, of Harmony died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis following a battle with cancer.

He was born in Clay County on July 28, 1982, the son of Charles Michael and Georgia Lawrence Kester.

Mr. Kester graduated from Northview High School with the class of 2001 and attended Ivy Tech Community College. Mikie worked for Kester Logging for several years. He married Rebecca Steen on Dec. 17, 2005. Most recently he worked for Pike Lumber Company as a logger. He was a member of the Bass Club. He also participated in Hunters Helping Hunters program. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding his "Rhino" UTV and spending time with his family, friends and dogs. He was also an avid Indianapolis Colts Football fan.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rosanna Lawrence and Norman Wayne and Bertha L. Kester; and cousin Brianna Wilkerson.

Survivors include his wife Becky of Harmony; parents Charles Michael and Georgia Kester of Brazil; sister Sara Kester of Brazil; in-laws Jim and Bonnie Steen of Greencastle; sisters-in-law Vickie DeWitt and Cassie Steen, both of Greencastle; brothers-in-law David Steen and Gerrick Steen, both of Greencastle; grandfather Glenn Lawrence of Brazil; special aunt and uncle Jerry and Mary Jane Kester of Reelsville; as well as several aunts, uncles and extended family members and a beloved Bassett Hound Titus.

Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Bob Kumpf officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Calling will be at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
