Barney D. Samples

Barney D. Samples, 82, Poland, died at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at his residence.

He was born Jan. 30, 1927 in Mulberry to Barney D. and Mary Curl Samples.

Mr. Samples married Betty L. Price Samples June 18, 1948 and she preceded him in death Aug. 13, 2006.

He retired in 1979 as a truck driver for Terminal Transport. He served in the army during World War II. He enjoyed fishing and was a member of Faith Victory Family Church in Martinsville.

Survivors include five sons, Nelson Samples and wife Corinna of Franklin, Pastor Bernie Samples and wife Janice of Barstow, Calif., John Samples an wife Pam of Ellettsville, Danny Samples of Bloomington and Denny Samples and wife Recea of Poland; one daughter, Sheryl Barnett and husband Kenny of Morganstown; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John Samples of Indianapolis and Raymond Samples of Indianapolis.

His wife; son Jay Samples; parents; brother Donnie Samples; and two sisters, Leona Martin and Norma Jean Jackson preceded him in death.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Costin Funeral Chapel, 539 E. Washington St., Martinsville, with Pastor Bernie Samples officiating. Burial will be in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.

Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
