Weatherford breaks school record; Tiger Cubs finish second at Invitational

CLAYTON -- Colleen Weatherford paced the Greencastle High School girls' cross country team to a second place finish at the Jon Mitchell Invitational Saturday morning.

Weatherford finished seventh with a time of 20:50.61, breaking Sara Culler's school record of 20:56.0. Also finishing in the top 20 was Emily Gill who finished 12 with a time of 21:34.55, Kayala Cash, who finished 15th with a time of 21:51.22. Culler rounded out the top 20 finishes for the Tiger Cubs with an 18th place finish with a time of 21:57.24.

Greencastle finihsed second with 73, points while Cloverdale finihsed ninth with 215 and South Putnam finihsed 10th with 237.

"Coming into this meet we knew that there would be some tough competition would come from 18th ranked Brownsburg and some of the other larger schools. I was pleased to have four girls in the top 20 and do so with good times," GHS coach Garry Anderson said. "The girls are responding well to competing as a team and not just as individuals.

"It's really been a surprise each meet this season with Emily Crawley, breaking her personal best each time she runs. She is really doing great for a first time cross country runner," Anderson added.

Greencastle is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Bloomington North for another Invitational.
