Max Eugene Zaring

Max Eugene Zaring, 76, of Fillmore died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at the Hickory Creek at Sunset Nursing Home in Greencastle.

Born Dec. 6, 1932 in Putnam County, he was the son of Robert and Marjorie Ferrand Zaring. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. On Aug. 8, 1954 he married Bonnie Jean Petrytus, and she preceded him in death on May 11, 2005.

Mr. Zaring was a lifetime farmer and also ran Zaring Processing Plant. He and his wife raised produce on the family farm in Fillmore for 20 years. He was active in FFA, Putnam County 4-H and youth baseball. He was also a past president of the South Putnam School Board.

Survivors include four children, Michael Zaring and wife Dondra of Greencastle, Robert "Bob" Zaring and wife Tina of Fillmore, Rebecca Zaring of Greencastle and Jake Zaring and wife Debby of Fillmore; nine grandchildren, Michelle Callahan, Kimberly Zaring, Taylor Zaring, Aaron Smith, Jordan Zaring, Izaak Zaring, Tiffany Douglass, Melissa Turner and Kristen Tippin; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters, Melba Eubanks Huff and Wilma Chadd.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Faust officiating. Burial will be in the Fillmore Cemetery with military rites.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Putnam County 4-H Council.
