Clovers get win over Eminence

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale girls' basketball team picked up a win against Eminence Monday 35-32. The Clovers held the Eels scoreless in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Holly McCammon led the way with nine points, followed by Sam Rightmyer with eight, Paige Guttierez with seven and Breegan Andersen with four points. Cedar Woodworth scored three and Paige Gruener and Elizabeth Wiley contributed two points each in the win.

Head coach Tom Anderson was pleased with the effort he got from his squad in Monday's contest.

"Our defense really stepped up," he said. "The kids played hard and we had contributions out of 10 players in some fashion. All 10 players had a positive effect on that game, whether it was a rebound, an assist, a steal -- whatever.

"We had 10 girls play and eight score, but all 10 got something in the stats that was positive. So it was a good team effort," he added.

He noted his team was down by 11 at the half, but following some halftime adjustments came out and shut down Eminence.

McCammon also led the team in rebounds with six, followed by Mariah Oetken with five and Woodworth, Rightmyer and Guttierez all with three each. Guttierez collected eight steals on the night as well.

Cloverdale will next be in action Friday in the first half of a WCC double-header with Greencastle beginning at 6 p.m.
