Student musicians earn honors

On Feb. 13, 68 members of the Greencastle High School and Middle School bands participated in the ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest held at Terre Haute North High School.

The results are as follows:

* GROUP I: Gold Rating -- Seth Miller, snare drum; Woodwind Trio, Kailia Thurston, Julie Peart, Emily Gill. Silver Rating -- Tess Handy, tenor sax; Emily Gill, clarinet; Katie Hedge, French horn.

* GROUP II: Silver Rating -- Flute Trio, Carollea Davis, Abby Patterson, Cassidy Crawford.

* GROUP III: Gold Rating, Matt White, alto sax; Tanner Dean, alto sax; Ethan Gill, xylophone; Percussion Trio, Nate Secrest, Travis Hoagland, Olivia Hoagland.

* GROUP IV: Gold Rating -- Elijiah Brattain, alto sax; Ichiro Mozawa, alto sax; Elliott Dunbar, trumpet; Lucas Eckrich, trumpet; Hannah Gellman, French horn; Nathan Gardner, snare drum; Flute Trio, Nicollete Peters, Rebecca Moore, Kristen Stevens; Woodwind Trio, Makenzie Wilson, Emily Wheeler, Elizabeth Johnson; Woodwind Trio, Abby Harms, Rebecca Moore, Dominique LaFontant; Brass Trio, Anthony Cosner, Elliott Dunbar, Jonas Trammel; Brass Quartet, Melody White, Hannah Gellman, Mary Ivy, Beth Ann Hansen; Brass Quintet, Taylor Secrest, Zach Secrest, Megan Dickey, Adam Gerard, Jason Ummel; Brass Sextet. * GROUP V: Gold Rating -- Kristen Stevens, flute; Emily Lenihan, flute; Brayden White, alto sax; Brayden Watson, alto sax; Zach Wilkerson, alto sax; Nathan Grzesiek, trumpet; Alex Matusiak, trumpet; Mitchell Johnson, trumpet; Lily Spencer, trumpet; Beth Ann Hansen, trombone; Taylor Secrest, trombone; Josh Mitchell, snare drum; Libby Brush, snare drum; Woodwind Trio, Monica Downing, Ashlyn Cox, Dominique LaFontant;; Woodwind Trio, Corrie Romer, Alison White, Cade Bailey; Woodwind Trio, Jessica Roberts, Hannah Beaman, Kenlee Johnson; Brass Trio, Billy Finch, Frank Lenihan, Isaac Harms; Percussion Trio, Eli Secrest, Levi Lewis, Payton Williams. Silver Rating -- Alex Stoffregen, flute.

The Greencastle bands are directed by Robert Hedge and Kathryn Dory.

  • It is nice to read about the band But what about the solo and ensemble coompetion that was held the week before?
