GMS, NPMS and SPJH get swin wins

GREENCASTLE -- The South Putnam Junior High swim teams battled West Vigo Tuesday with both teams posting wins. The girls' won 113-63, while the boys' won 99-77.

Picking up wins for the girls' team was Mariah Minnick (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Tori Kiste (50 freestyle, 50 butterfly), Siera Heim (Diving) and Kyndra Boyce (100 breaststroke).

Maddy King, Clair Perry, Heim and Kiste won the 200 medley relay, while the team of Heim, Kiste, Perry and Kelly Hayden captured the 200 free relay. Heim, Minnick, Kiste and Perry teamed up to win the 400 free relay as well.

For the boys, Larry Hurst (200 free, 400 free), Tayler Arnold (50 free, 100 backstroke), Austin Query (Diving) and Tyler Neumann (100 breaststroke) all gained wins for the Eagles.

Arnold, Neumann, Wyatt Nees and Ben Albright won the 200 medley relay. They also teamed up to win the 200 free relay. Scott Duggan, Zach Rayce, Hurst and Albright captured the 400 free relay on the night.

Greencastle

GREENCASTLE -- The Greencastle Middle School swim teams fought Southmont Tuesday, with both teams picking up wins. The girls' team won 120-54, while the boys' team were victorious 107-26.

Hannah Brattain (200 free), Rosio Gomez (100 IM), Alexis Branagin (Diving), Rachel Custis (50 fly), Quinci Miller (100 free) and Ashlyn Cox (100 breatstroke) captured individual wins on the night.

The team of Corrie Romer, Brattain, Amelia Smith and Kristen Stevens won the 200 medley relay, with the team of Melody Barnett, Cox, Mary Ivy and Abaigail Wilson won the 200 free relay. The 400 relay team of Rosio Gomez, Romer, Rebecca Moore and Emily Wheeler were also victorious.

The boys gained seven individual wins in the event. Isaac Harms (200 free), Elijah Brattain (100 IM, 100 backstroke), Cameron Hinton (50 free, 100 free), Jacob Kessler (50 fly) and Nathan Gardner (100 breaststroke) all recorded wins.

Taylor Secrest, Gardner, Kessler and Hinton won the 200 medley relay, while the team of Jason Ummel, Alex Briones, Gardner and Secrest won the 200 free relay. Brattain, Gardner, Ummel and Harms led GMS to a win in the 400 free relay.

North Putnam

ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam Middle School swim teams split with Tri-West recently. The boys' team won 89-85, while the girls lost 126-48.

Dane Gray captured the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, with his time of 1:18.68 in the breaststroke setting a new school record. He swam the 50 free in a time of 27.14.

Gray has posted five school records this season. His records include a time of 1:08.82 in the 100 IM and a time of 59.53 in the 100 freestyle. His time of 2:14.29 in the 200 freestyle and 32.51 in the 50 backstroke were also records.

Also grabbing wins for North Putnam were Cyle Ford (100 freestyle) and Taylor Tornell (400 freestyle). The 200 free relay team of Gray, Alan Skillern, Trevor Troyer and Sean Hinners won in a time of 2:03.54, while the team of Gray, Ford, Nicholas Kaufman and Taylor Thornell won the 400 free rely in 4:45.74.

The girls' team failed to get any individual winner, but one individual and two relays posted second place finishes.

Jessie Harper was second in the 100 free with a time of 1:11.16, while the 200 medley relay team of Harper, Corinne Callan, Alexandra Wittig and Autumn Wolf were second with a time of 2:46.25. Harper, Wolf, Wittg and Sydnie Kanne placed second in the 200 free relay with a time of 2:2.74.
