Robert Eugene Haddix, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, 85, of Indianapolis, formerly of West Union, Ill., passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 in St. Vincent Carmel Hospital.

He was born Aug. 2, 1924 in West Union, the son of Russell Haddix and Stella Saiter Haddix. He married Melba M. Marlowe on Aug. 22, 1946 in Marshall, Ill., and she preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 2002.

Mr. Haddix was a member of the Chapel Rock Christian Church in Indianapolis and a graduate of Marshall High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Alnitah AK-217.

Surviving are his children Marilyn (Vernon) Hanson of Minneapolis, Carol (Paul) Fagin of Cloverdale, Denise (David) Watkins of Indianapolis, David (Denise) Haddix of Indianapolis and Christine (Keith) Battson of Speedway; two sisters, Helen Sabo of Hobart and Doris Lee Fesi of Hobart; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services in honor of his life will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. 6th St., Marshall, Ill., with the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial will be in Marshall Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
