GREENCASTLE -- Republican Noble New will be one of four candidates for Putnam County sheriff in the May 4 primary election.

New graduated from Greencastle High School. He continued his education at the Clinton Center, Purdue University, Indiana University, Indiana State University and the Indiana Safe Schools Academy.

New and his wife, RhoDonna, live in Greencastle.

"I was born and raised in Putnam County," he said. "Going into my third year of college, I applied to the Indiana State Police and was accepted. I was assigned to the Putnamville District. I served the people of Putnam County for 27 1/2 years before retiring. I have a long history in public service and law enforcement."

If elected, New has several goals.

"The sheriff should serve the patrons and courts of Putnam County," he said. "I will strive to fulfill all the obligations of the sheriff's department, and at the same time reduce spending.

"I will bring back honor to the image of the department," he continued. "I will always put the safety of employees first. I will restore the public's trust in the sheriff. I will always do what I know in my heart is in the best interest of Putnam County."
