David Allen Proctor, 61, of Putnam County died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at his residence after a more than two-year battle with cancer.

David was born Nov. 4, 1948 to Leo L. and Wilma D. Poynter Proctor.

David graduated from Greencastle High School and Indiana State University. He was a partner in Greencastle Tractor Sales, Inc. with his parents, and most recently he was a real estate broker and property manager. He was an honest, hardworking and well-respected businessman in Putnam County all of his life, becoming a valued friend to farmers and businesses throughout Putnam and surrounding counties.

David was a lifetime member of the NRA, Single Action Shooting Society and the Safari Club International. He was also a knowledgeable member of the Republican Party.

He enjoyed traveling, especially driving to historical sites in the U.S., and going on African safaris. He was also active in 4-H, teaching gun safety classes. David was a father figure for his niece Vanessa, helping her with 4-H projects, cowboy shoots and teaching her about values in life.

David leaves behind his grieving family, including his mother and father; his sisters, Janice Hodges and husband Daryl of Greencastle and Darla Proctor Thompson of Greencastle; nieces Vanessa Thompson, Alisa Hodges and Andrea Clinebelle and husband Kevin; nephew Eric Hodges and wife Amy; a great-niece, Carina Hodges; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle with burial in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Calling will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
