WEST TERRE HAUTE -- The Greencastle boys' golf team downed West Vigo Thursday 161-186 in their first dual competition.

Brad Haussin led the GHS charge with a medalist round of 36. Ray Stinson followed with a 40, while Eric Embry chipped in with a 42 and Tyler Hopkins and Derik Thomas each carded a 43. Jimmy Wheeler contributed a 44 on the day.

Greencastle head coach Donovan Wheeler acknowledged the solid round Haussin put up for his team.

"Brad's round was a solid effort," he said. "He plays on a maturity level that's so far above anyone I've seen in my career at two schools. He got off to that 2-under start and started licking his chops a bit. But when he did lose a few shots, he was so zeroed on the moment that he was able to minimize the mistakes and produce a great round.

"His mind is the x-factor. No one focuses like him and no one manages his emotions like he does," Wheeler added.

He also expressed his pleasure with the round Stinson posted for the Tiger Cubs. He noted that Stinson put in the time in the off-season the results are showing. Wheeler also voiced that he believes his team will use Thursday's round as a learning device.

"The rest of us will learn from this," Wheeler said. "We started doing the math before the day was over. It's hard to hit smart shots when you're running the calculator in your head.

"Still, two good outings for this group. I feel good about where this young team is," Wheeler concluded.
