Vernon L. Walton, 80, of Greencastle passed away on Monday, Monday, May 17, 2010.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1929 in Marion County to William and Goldie Evelyn Fields Walton. Mr. Walton was a 1948 graduate of Carmel High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and received the Korean Service Ribbon with three Bronze Service Stars.

Vernon was employed by the Chrysler Corporation in Indianapolis and retired from IBM in Greencastle after 27 years of service. He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge #1077, VFW Post #1550 and American Legion Post #58 all of Greencastle.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Betty; two daughters, Pam Proctor and husband Rick of Greencastle and Stephanie Richardson and husband John of Greencastle; one brother, Audrey Walton and wife Elnora of Greencastle; one sister, Sharon Burris of Greenfield; and four grandchildren, Derek Richardson, Cory Proctor, Nicole Vanatti and husband Aaron and Dana Proctor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Abe Walton and sister Wanda Petty.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Rusty Anderson officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
