Grads Enter 'Brave New World'

Saturday, May 29, 2010

It was a joyous evening for Greencastle High School graduates and their families, friends and teachers celebrated the 131 seniors who will be moving on after their four years of high school. April Stidd, above, couldn't contain her smile after accepting her diploma. Co-valedictorian Ashley Smith, below, gave her classmates advice in the form of quotes from others. Her final was a single word: "Sparkle," spoken by retired GHS teacher Vickie Parker. "Remember this one word and go out into the world fearless." Other speakers for the evening included Smith's fellow valedictorians Melissa Ball, Nicholas Lancaster and Hilary Schroeder; salutatorian Ashley Holmes and class president Sarah Dory. English teacher Donovan Wheeler spoke to the students about the proper perspective on life and what they should value in their journey. "That $150 a month TV, Internet and phone bundle -- trade it in for a book and porch swing and a patio facing the sunset," Wheeler said.
