Colleen Weatherford's time of 2:20.59 in the 800 meters at the IHSAA State Finals earned her 19th place in the state as a freshman.

BLOOMINGTON -- It was a big stage, and though it might not have been the time she was looking for, GHS freshman Colleen Weatherford has one state finals meet under her belt.

The Greencastle distance runner placed seventh in her heat and 19th overall with a time of 2:20.59.

Weatherford jumped out to an early lead in the first heat, but the pack quickly caught up and eventually overtook the freshman. Although she slipped to the seventh spot, Weatherford continued to push herself and gave one final surge at the line.

The 800-meter run proved to be an event all by itself. Abby Farley of Park Tudor broke the state record of 2:09.82 by posting a time of 2:09.50, besting Taylor Wiley of Evansville Central by more than three seconds.

Farley captured the top spot last year as well, but shaved three seconds from her time to earn the record.
