PCPL plans upgrade for online catalog

Monday, July 26, 2010

GREENCASTLE -- The Putnam County Public Library announced its online catalog might be down briefly Thursday morning, while an upgrade is applied to the Polaris System software.

As a result of the upgrade, patrons will notice two new features. First, series information will display in the brief title record when available. For example, fans of a particular books series will have an easier search for the order in which the books are read.

Secondly, users will be able to place holds on individual items for television series on disc or graphic novels in series, basically any item with multiple volumes linked to one title record.

Overall, the upgrade will result in easier use for the library's patrons with added features and allow more efficient access to searches. Reference staff will still be available to help patrons find any material they need during the upgrade period.

Users of PCPL are reminded they must bring their library card Thursday. During the upgrade, the library's automation system will be down and staff will be unable to look up card numbers.

Be sure to check the online catalog and see the changes.
