Evelyn J. Slavens, 94, of Greencastle passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1916 in Greencastle to Jesse Tobin and Lydia Gorham Tobin.

She was formerly employed at Angwell Curtain Factory and retired from Mallory's. Mrs. Slavens attended First Baptist Church and was a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her son, Stephen L. Slavens and wife, Cathy, of Greencastle; a sister, Fran Downey of St. Louis; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Slavens was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Faye I. Slavens; three brothers, Homer Tobin, James T. Tobin and TB Tobin; and three sisters, Mary Pieper, Ida Magdendanz and Helen L. Sutherlin.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Bowen officiating.

Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Mrs. Slavens' name may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
