Officials invite input about DePauw plan

GREENCASTLE -- Community members are invited to join DePauw University President Brian Casey for a conversation about plans to re-envision campus spaces and strengthen connections to Greencastle.

Hosted by Mayor Sue Murray in Greencastle City Hall, the Campus Community Planning Forum will occur on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.

This forum is the latest in a series of conversations for campus and community members to offer input and feedback.

"This is an exciting process and demonstrates the commitment of DePauw and the City of Greencastle to work together for the benefit of both of our communities," said Murray. "I hope citizens will take the opportunity to attend the meeting to discuss these important issues and add their voices to a meaningful conversation."

Earlier this month, Dr. Casey discussed with members of the Common Council ideas such as creating a prominent campus entrance on Anderson Street, improving prospective students' arrival experience to the Office of Admission and renewing the tree canopy in the academic core of the campus.

Dr. Casey also discussed longer term considerations for moving university administrative staff offices to encourage foot traffic in and around the downtown corridor.

"DePauw and Greencastle have a deep history and a shared future," Dr. Casey said. "Both need each other to thrive. It's very important that we move ahead together, and that we have community input into the campus planning vision in particular."
