Friendship Day set for Sept. 15

GREENCASTLE -- Friendship Day 2010 is set for Sept. 15. The event is intended to spread friendship, goodwill and community spirit among Putnam County Citizens.

Approximately 4,000 roses will be given away in dozens on one condition: You can keep one rose to enjoy for yourself, but you must give the other 11 roses to 11 different people.

The sponsors of this event are requesting that when picking up your dozen roses, you generously drop off a canned food item, so that it may be donated to the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry.

"This is just one more small way, that we can make a difference for our neighbors," said Tammy Amor, executive director of the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce.

If you are unable to bring a canned good, you can still get a dozen roses to pass to out to friends, neighbors, relative and coworkers.

The roses will be available at the sponsor locations starting at 8 a.m. on the Sept. 15: Eitel's Flowers & Gifts, the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, Asbury Towers Retirement, Bank of America Home Loans, Bittles & Hurt/Hopkins-Rector Funeral Homes, Cinergy MetroNet, Cunningham Insurance, First National Bank, Ivy Tech Community College and Teachers Credit Union.

Each year the roses go faster, so the sponsors want to remind everyone to come as early as they can, before they are all gone.
