Fillmore Council unanimously approves funds to upgrade town hall
FILLMORE -- Town council members voted unanimously Thursday to fund upgrades to Fillmore Town Hall.
The first part of the plan is to move the furnace to a central part of the building and to complete the ductwork throughout the building. The work should be completed later this month. This portion of the work will take the furnace out of the current meeting room and greatly reduce the background noise during meetings.
In October, work will be done in the clerk-treasurer's office to add a separate, private office in addition to the public portion of the office.
The board accepted a $13,365 proposal from Bunten Construction to do the work.
CPA Ron Astin has advised the board to allocate $20,000 from the EDIT fund to complete the work.
Astin, who has been working with Clerk-Treasurer Wanda Seidler on the books, also briefly went over the 2011 budget with the council. He suggested a number of transfers to the general fund to balance the books for the coming year.
Following last month's passage of a golf cart ordinance, the town has fielded a number of inquiries about the issue. Anyone wishing to schedule a golf cart inspection should call the town hall at 246-6711. Seidler will then notify Town Marshal Darrel Bunten.
Bunten reported to the board a number of recent thefts from vehicles. He reminded citizens to lock their automobiles.
The board also approved a $300 expenditure for concrete to fix the sidewalk beside town hall as well as a pumping station. Board member Alan Jones will complete the work.
Additionally, the board accepted a $10 donation from the Bethel Baptist Church Women's Circle. The group made the donation after the town supplied power for the church's recent ice cream social.
Board president Jeff Osborn thanked the Women's Circle on the town's behalf.
