Greencastle boys' shuts out Mounties

NEW MARKET -- After suffering its first loss on the season last week at Terre Haute South, the Greencastle boys' soccer team bounced back with an impressive win over South Montgomery Tuesday night.

The Tiger Cubs' Spencer Moore netted a goal in the first 10 minutes of the match on an assist from Sonney Basham. Brandon Query headed in a goal five minutes later to extend the lead to 2-0 from an assist by Mitchell Ball. Cody Watson rounded off the first-half scoring with 21 minutes to play with a nice one-time shot on a crossing ball from Query. Greencastle led 3-0 at the break.

The second half was again controlled by the Tiger Cubs as they out -hot the Mounties 14-3.

Moore added his second goal of the night with 34:47 to play when he took a pass from Josh Bonebrake and hit a shot past Mounties keeper Cody Thomas.

The Mounties never really pressured the Tiger Cubs back line for the remainder of the contest, the match ended in a 4-0 victory for Greencastle.

With the win the Tiger Cubs improve their season record to 7-1, while the Mounties drop to 5-2. Greencastle will host the North Putnam Cougars at Dee Monnett Field on Thursday at 5 p.m.
