Hospice volunteers needed

DANVILLE -- Advocate Hospice, a locally owned and operated hospice agency, has immediate need for hospice volunteers in Avon, Brownsburg, Danville, Plainfield, Greencastle, Lebanon, and Greenwood.

"The support hospice volunteers provide to terminally ill patients and their caregivers and families is greatly needed and appreciated," said Linda Richardson, hospice president. "Families can become overwhelmed as the disease progresses. Volunteers can make all the difference by staying with the patient for a few hours at a time and providing families and caregivers some freedom to do other things, such as running errands or taking a break."

Hospice volunteers often read to the patient, converse, play games, perform light housekeeping or cooking or make crafts and decorations for the patient's home. Other much-needed volunteer opportunities are available in the Advocate Hospice office, including assisting with paperwork, answering the phone or other office duties.

All Volunteers receive special training through the Advocate Hospice Volunteer Training Program.

Anyone wishing to help the residents of their community may contact James Paino, volunteer coordinator, at (317) 745-5147 or visit www.advocatehospice.com to learn more about the company.
