National Guard cleans up lake

Monday, October 4, 2010

GREENCASTLE -- The Indiana Army National Guard Recruit Sustainment Detachment in Greencastle is conducting "Operation Guard The Environment." This operation is a way to show the Putnam County Community that the National Guard cares about the environment.

The operation will take place at Heritage Lake from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 10. The detachment chose Heritage Lake because of the 1,300 residences, 320-acre lake and tons of wildlife in the area.

Sixty brand new Indiana Army National Guard soldiers will pick up trash around Heritage Drive, which is an 8.5-mile stretch around the lake.

The Recruit Sustainment Detachment in Greencastle trains soldiers before Basic Training. As new Indiana Army National Guard Soldiers, they are proud to do their part in helping clean up the environment in Putnam County.
