Sorority making blankets for Riley

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

The Beta Psi chapter of Tri Kappa held their October meeting at the home of Diane Ummel.

New member, Cortney Miller was initiated and welcomed into the chapter.

During the meeting, Tri Kappa members worked on fleece "no-sew" blankets for donation to Riley Hospital.

The blankets will be delivered, along with others made by the chapter last Spring, to the Riley Cheer guild for distribution to children in the hospital.

Donations of items such as toothbrushes, cleaning products, and ready-to-eat, packaged food items were collected for the Away Home Shelter in Greencastle. Members learned about the shelter and its services via a presentation by the Charity committee.

Each member received a copy of the Ronald McDonald House "wish list," and members were asked to collect items to donate to RMH during the month of October.

The community is also encouraged to participate by dropping off items to be delivered to RMH at the Putnam Inn throughout the month.

Items on the "Top 10" wishlist include: cereal (individual servings), liquid laundry detergent, granola and cereal bars, snacks (Little Debbies, cookies), liquid hand soap, frozen dinners and microwave meals, plastic storage bags (sandwich and quart size), air freshener, tissue, and toilet paper. Additonal "wish list" items can be found online at rmh-indiana.org.

It was shared at the meeting that the community will be collecting pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House to be donated in the name of Eli Hardwick.

Tri Kappa will participate in the collection of these tabs, which can be dropped off at First National Bank in care of Natalie Pritchard.

A report on the Tri Kappa Province V Convention that occurred in September was given.

Several members of the Greencastle chapter (Beta Psi) received honors at the Fine Arts Exhibit and will compete in their respective categories at State Convention in Indianapolis next April.

Beta Psi award winners were: Georgeann Caine, Megan Crimmins, Kathryn Dory, Dessa Frank, and Amy Hale.

Finally, members were reminded to turn in orders for nuts by Oct. 15 (last-minute orders may be placed by contacting Rhonda Brotherton at brotherton@cinergymetro.net), and that the sale of Tri Kappa Cookbooks was continuing.

The cookbooks include contributions from current and past members and are $10 each.

  • My daughter received one of these blankets back in Januray at Riley while she had her heart surgery. What a blessing that blanket was to her and still is. Thank you for taking the time, you really do not realize the impact you have on those children with your kindness.
