Putnam County Extension Advisory council to meet Nov. 30

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Tracy Hunter of Hunter's Honey Farm will be the speaker at the upcoming annual meeting of the Putnam County Extension Advisory Council.

The event is slated to occur at the Putnam County Fairgrounds on starting with dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 30.

Tickets to the event are $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.

Besides a brief update of Purdue Extension-Putnam County programs and activities, the agenda includes the highlight of the evening -- guest speaker Tracy Hunter, who is owner of the 100-year-old family business, Hunter's Honey Farm.

Hunter produces honey and is involved with breeding and producing honeybees.

He will discuss the significant challenges beekeepers have faced during recent years. Some producers have lost two-thirds or more of hives during recent winters due to these additional stresses.

Hunter will also discuss the threats of losing honeybees in the pollination of plants that are significant for crop production and food supply.

Tickets are available from any Extension Board member or by contacting the Purdue Extension-Putnam County office at 653-8411 or at 209 W. Liberty St. Room 5 in Greencastle in the Courthouse Annex.
