GREENCASTLE -- The DePauw University Band will present a concert on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium.

The program will also feature the DePauw University Chorus, Jan Harrington, conductor, and two student wind chamber music ensembles.

Music will include "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Aaron Copland, "Short Ride in a Fast Machine" by John Adams, "Children's March: Over the Hills and Far Away" by Percy Grainger, "Jupiter" from "The Planets" by Gustav Holst, and "Russian Christmas Music" by Alfred Reed.

"This is a unique setting of 'Russian Christmas Music' because it includes several musical elements that were not part of the original band work," said Craig Paré, conductor of the University Band. "Composer and arranger John McIntyre, a colleague who teaches at St. Mary of the Woods College, added chorus, organ, and harp to the piece, with the approval of Alfred Reed.

"So, for wind musicians who have performed this piece in the past and listeners who have only experienced the band version, this is a wonderfully new and fresh approach to this classic work.

"Additionally, it is a pleasure to combine forces with the University Chorus for this performance. We're grateful for their participation in, and preparation of, this work."

The performance will be broadcast later that day on DePauw University radio WGRE 91.5, and can also be accessed at http://www.depauw.edu/univ/wgre/listen.asp on the DePauw University website.

It is requested that, if possible, those attending the performance bring one non-perishable food item for admission. All donations will go directly to the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry. Needed items include canned vegetables and fruit, canned meats, individually boxed cereals, powdered milk, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce.
