South Putnam sixth grader Desirae Poynter gets recycling tips from Missy Orr, DePauw University assistant director for sustainability, at a presentation Tuesday afternoon at a Central F.E.E.T. (Friendly Environmental Engineers of Tomorrow) meeting at Central Elementary. The student volunteer group is comprised of about 50 students in grades four through six that meet once a month to discuss environmental issues, recycle for the school and plant trees around the school. It is led by South Putnam teachers Michael Fisher, Kelly Newby, David Mann and Becky Phillips. Orr said she hopes the partnership between DePauw and South Putnam continues to grow. "The connection with the community is important and something I believe in," she said. Banner Graphic/AMANDA JUNK
