Richard Allan Johnson, 78, died on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 after a three-year battle with multiple myeloma. He was born May 24, 1932 in Frankfort to Charles Ernest (Ernie) and Marie Johnson.

He resided in Frankfort, Bainbridge and Danville and moved to Indianapolis in 1966.

He graduated from Bainbridge High School, earned a BME from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) and MBA from Indiana University.

He spent his career as an engineer at the Allison Gas Turbine Division ofg General Motors, retiring in 1990. He served on the Danville Town Board, the Meridian Street Foundation Board and as President of The Festival Music Society (now Indianapolis Early Music).

He is survived by his wife Cecile; daughters, Jennifer Breitenstein (New York City), Suzanne Gray (Columbia, S.C.); stepdaughter Rebecca Brooks (David, Missoula, Mont.), and stepson, Christopher Barnhart (Boston, Mass.); grandchildren Emma Breitenstein, Jordan and Hunter Gray, Sage Brooks; sister, Virgini (Fred) Begg (Aiken, S.C.) and sister-in-law, Rosalind Wilgus.

The family would like to extend the utmost thanks to Dr. Jose Azar and the 2N and 5N nursing staff for the compassionate care Richard received while at University Hospital.

Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be given to the Simon Cancer Center's Multiple Myeloma Research Fund.
