North Putnam drops heartbreaker to Mounties

NEW MARKET -- The North Putnam girls basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Southmont Tuesday by the count of 62-61.

The Cougars trailed by two with 15 seconds to go, but a three-pointer by Megan Robinson gave North Putnam the lead 61-60 with 6.4 second remaining.

However, the officials had .5 second put back on the clock and that would be the difference maker. With .1 seconds remaining, Southmont was able to knock down two free throws to come away with the narrow victory.

Mackenzie Asbell led the Cougars with 17 points. She was followed by Megan Robinson with 15 points and Morgan Robinson with 10 points. Samantha Lucas chipped in seven points in the loss.

North Putnam won the junior varsity game 31-20. Madi Asbell had 12 points for the Cougars.
