Howard J. Earl, 91, of Bonita Springs, Fla. died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at Life Care Center of Estero, Fla.

Formerly a resident of Greencastle, Howard had resided in Florida for over 20 years.

He was born Jan. 7, 1920 in Terre Haute to the late Harry and Minnie (nee Hutchinson) Earl.

Mr. Earl was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. Howard was retired from IBM Corporation.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed tennis, shuffle board and traveling. Mr. Earl was a member of Gobin United Methodist Church in Greencastle and participated in missionary trips in the 1970s.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty (nee Shanks), his daugher, Linda Walsh, of Bloomington, as well as her stepfamily, Anne, Bob, Bobby and Shawn Grindstaff of Nashville. He is also survived by stepdaughters Linda York of Greencastle and Bonnie Michel of Auburn, N.Y. and by step-granddaughter Jennifer Andrzejewski of Hamburgh, N.Y.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Tr. So., Bonita Springs, Fla.

Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
