Raymond Dickerson

Raymond E.C.T. "Ray" Dickerson, 65, of Greencastle passed away on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011. He was born on Nov. 29, 1945 in Piggott, Arkansas to Earl C.T. Dickerson and Ota Mae Book Dickerson.

Ray received his bachelor's degree in high school social studies from Oakland City University and a master's degree in elementary education from Indiana University. He received his second master's degree from Indiana University in science. His career in public education started at the Grissom Air Force Base School where he taught Science. He then served as a principal at Decatur County community schools, before coming to Greencastle. Mr. Dickerson taught sixth grade science in the Greencastle Community school system for 28 years, teaching at Jones Elementary and Greencastle Middle School.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Greencastle.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Nancy; his children, Heather Crowley and husband, Will of Greencastle and Matthew Dickerson of Greencastle; his mother, Ota Mae Brendle of Warren, Mich.; a sister, Lola Hoenighausen and husband, Norman of Royal Oak, Mich.; three grandchildren, Kylan Hounsell, Kendra Hounsell, and Jaelen Hounsell; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 7 p.m. at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Interment will be private at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Ray will be remembered for his impact on several generations of Greencastle students through his love of teaching.
