Combs gets 25 years
GREENCASTLE -- An Indianapolis man convicted of Class A felony child molestation was in court for sentencing on Thursday.
Kevin D. Combs, 42, was handed a 25-year sentence by Putnam County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Headley.
Combs was arrested in late April. According to court documents, he molested a 10-year-old girl, and the acts of molestation occurred in Putnam County.
Initially, Combs was also charged with one count of Class C felony child molesting.
A Class A felony is punishable by up to 50 years in prison.
Combs will receive credit for the 301 days he has served in the Putnam County Jail. He has been incarcerated since his April 22 arrest, unable to post the $50,000 cash only bond that was set at his initial hearing.
Court documents said Combs' victim, who lived in Hendricks County, came forward last January. She told authorities that Combs had had intercourse with her.
The girl said the molestation took place when she was a fourth-grader. She said Combs had come into her bedroom on night and laid down on top of her as she slept. She said when she woke up, Combs covered her mouth with his hand to keep her from crying out.
Due to privacy laws, the girl's current age and the exact dates of when the molestation occurred were not made public.
Combs was interviewed at the Putnamville Post of the Indiana State Police on April 22. He was read his rights and voluntarily spoke to officers.
Combs' prior criminal history in Putnam County includes only traffic infractions. His previous address is listed as 712 Maple St., Greencastle.
