First Veterans Expo at VFW Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE -- Area veterans in need of help should take note of an upcoming event.

The first Veterans Expo -- sponsored by WorkOne -- will take place Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the V.F.W. Post 972, 111 Veterans Square, Terre Haute.

WorkOne Local Veterans Employment Representative Walter Padgett said one of his colleagues came up with the idea to conduct the expo.

"It was set up to provide information to veterans about the resources available to them that they might not be aware of," Padgett said.

Several agencies will be on hand at the event with available information for veterans. Padgett said representatives from Union Hospital will be at the event, as well as representatives from VA Benefits, real estate agencies and banks in addition to trade businesses.

Additionally, he said local universities such as Indiana State University, Ivy Tech Community College, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will be represented.

Padgett said businesses scheduled to appear at the event are not necessarily planning on hiring anyone Tuesday, but rather provide information to the veterans in attendance.

"There are a lot of resources out there that people don't know about," Padgett said. "The truth is, they need help. Our idea is to provide information on those resources."

WorkOne has offices in a handful of counties that make up the Wabash Valley, including one in Clay County, located at 17 W. National Ave. For more information, call the local office at 448-2636.

"We're hoping this will be successful enough that someone will want to do it again," Padgett said.
