Mr. Russell Eddie Buis, 85, Plainfield, formerly of Greencastle, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Yellow Rose Hospice at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born July 15, 1925 in Greencastle, he was the son of Eddie H. and Rachael (Albin) Buis and a 1943 graduate of Greencastle High School. He married Alberta (Bollock) Buis on March 31, 1948 and she survives.

Russell had been a plumber and steamfitter with the Chevrolet truck and bus plant in Indianapolis for 24 years, retiring in 1988.

He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served in World War II in campaigns that included Saipan and Iwo Jima, earning a Bronze Star. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Association and American Legion Post 58 of Greencastle.

Survivors include his wife; daughters Diana Laybold of Plainfield, Beverly (Floyd) Campbell of Danville, Ill. and Linda (David) Laird of Anderson; brother Howard (Celia) Buis of Noblesville; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven-great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Jack Salts; and two sisters Jean Moore and Wanda Grimes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Bowen officiating. Burial with military rites will at the Forest Hill Cemetery

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
