GC Galleria partners with SAWs on fundraiser

Saturday, March 19, 2011

The Greencastle Presbyterian Church is joining with the GC Galleria and local artists to help raise funds to support the mission of Servants at Work (SAWs) in Putnam County.

SAWs provides labor, materials and expertise to build wooden ramps for members of the community who do not have the freedom of mobility to move in and out of their homes without a ramp and who are unable to provide one for themselves.

Sue Brucks, director of the GC Galleria (supported by the Greencastle Project Ignition, Inc.), is working to organize local artists to paint or otherwise transform vintage oak folding chairs from the original Presbyterian Church building in Greencastle.

The chairs will be available for sale in a silent auction during the first Friday Event sponsored by the Greencastle Arts Council at the GC Galleria, 16 S. Jackson St., from 5 to 7 p.m. April 1. All proceeds from the sale of the chairs will support the SAWs mission.

The SAWs team, with help from the Greencastle Presbyterian Church Board of Deacons, will provide refreshments and share more information about the SAWs mission during the auction.

Prior to the auction, the chairs will be on display for public viewing at the GC Galleria beginning March 23 during regular gallery hours, Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.

For more information, call Brucks at 721-3001.
