Tiger Cubs fight off Eagles

On Monday, the GMS boys' track team ran against South Putnam and we were able to hold on to an early lead to win the meet 60-48.

Greencastle swept the long jump event with Nathan Grzesiek taking first. Sedrick Weinschenk and Grzesiek went 1-2 in the 110-meter hurdles.

GMS head coach Art Dwigans said he also had a good showing in his mid-distance runner with a lot of second and third place finishes, but was challenged by South Putnam's strong runners. "I'm proud of the boys for their improvements, they are still adjusting to me as a coach, as I am still learning in my first year as coach," Dwigans said. "We are a really young team, and with that I hope to see big improvements from one meet to the next, but who can complain with a 2-0 start to your season."

South Putnam eight first place finishes on the night. Lucas Lorian won the high jump and the 400- and 100-meters, while Joey Master won the discus and shot put. Noah Taylor won the 800-meters, Zane Yon won the 200-meters and the team of Yon, Lorian, Taylor and Lane Franklin won the 400-meter relay.
