The South Putnam girls' tennis team won a close contest with West Vigo Monday, winning 3-2.

Recording wins for the Eagles was the No. 1 doubles team of Ericka Minor and Robbie Urton, which defeated Leah Ross and Allyson Walters 6-1 and 6-1, while the No. 2 doubles team of Caitlyn Boyce and Madison Cash cruised to victory over Sydney Brown and Delanee Hurst 6-0 and 6-3.

No. 2 singles player Jordyn Pitts rounded out the South Putnam win. Pitts defeated Emily Wheatfill 6-2 and 6-3

In junior action, Cierra Brown and Kassi Rains teamed up for a win as did Kyndra Boyce and Kelly Hayden.

South Putnam's No. 1 and 3 singles players Kendra Latham and Allison Guthrie came up short in their matches, but South Putnam head coach Johnnie Briones said the scores weren't indicative of how close the matches really were.

"I'm proud of Kendra and Allison for playing to win one point at a time," Briones said.
