The Putnam County Hospital Guild is currently seeking additional active members.

The Guild was established to help promote and advance the welfare of PCH through volunteer services, in fundraising efforts and promote a better understanding of the services available to the community.

Today, the Guild plays an active role in the success of Putnam County Hospital. Through various fundraisers and gift shop sales, the organization is able to contribute to the purchase of equipment and support community-minded programs and scholarships.

In 2010, the Guild donated $15,000 towards the purchase of four mobile computer workstations for staff trainings and compliance requirements. An additional $2,000 was donated to the Putnam County Health Careers Foundation, a scholarship for local residents pursuing a healthcare related career, other than in nursing.

The Guild also contributes to the local Relay for Life event and this year has helped area diabetes patients participate in the Diabetes Self Management Education group classes by offering a scholarship for the enrollment fee.

"It is a good feeling to have a part in the local healthcare," said Fran Allen, Membership Chairman.

Members volunteer to assist in the Hospital Gift Shop, provide services at the information desk and in other areas of the hospital as needed.

"It is a good place for retirees or others not in the workforce to get out meeting people and contributing to the community," Allen added.

Volunteer shifts are often in three and one-half to four hour segments.

Individuals wishing to join the organization may contact the Hospital Gift Shop for an application. Annual dues are $5 and will be collected with the application. For more information, please contact the gift shop at 655-2596 Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
