Relay for Life stays outdoors

Saturday, April 30, 2011

Based on this weekend's weather forecast, the 2011 Putnam County Relay for Life will go on as scheduled outdoors at DePauw University's Blackstock Stadium.

Opening ceremonies for Relay for Life 2011 will begin at noon Saturday.

The Greencastle weather forecast calls for beautiful weather on Saturday with the potential for some scattered showers or isolated storms in the overnight hours into Sunday morning.

The Relay for Life Leadership Team will monitor the situation and take preparations to ensure the safety of participants in the early hours of Sunday morning if severe weather does indeed reach the area.

Registration for Relay begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and participants are being advised to prepare for some damp field conditions as well as the potential for wind gusts throughout the day.

Last year's event had to be moved to the DePauw Indoor Track and Field Center as a precaution due to severe weather.
