The South Putnam girls' tennis team defeated White River Valley at home Saturday, 3-2.

Kendra Latham won at No. 1 singles 6-2 and 6-2 for the lone win for the Eagles at singles. No. 1 doubles team of Ericka Minor and Sabrina Arnold won 6-0 and 6-2, with the No. 2 double team of Robbie Urton and Jade Asher winning 7-5 and 6-4.

"Our girls played very well despite the delay and weather conditions," head coach Johnnie Briones said. "(It was) a good warm-up to a very busy schedule next week."

On Thursday, South Putnam suffered a 5-0 loss to North Montgomery. The Eagles may have struggled, but Briones thought his team showed so big positives.

"(I'm) proud of our girls stepping up their game, which made for some long points," he said. "(We) got to see what the talent level is beyond sectional."
