Greencastle boys' golf powered through an hour-long lightning delay to take the WCC championship at Deer Creek on Saturday behind medalist Jim Wheeler.

Regardless of the poor weather during the second half of the day, the Tiger Cubs roared to a complete victory, seeing all five competitors in the top seven final scores of the day. None were better on the day than Wheeler, who recently won the County Tournament as well.

Wheeler's 74 wasn't the only bright spot for Greencastle. His teammates shared in the success, finishing third (Alec Davis, 76), fourth (Brad Haussin, 79), fifth (Luke Brotherton, 81), and seventh (Raymond Stinson, 85).

"Jimmy really played well," said Greencastle head coach Steve Paquin. "They all did today. It was a good team effort under some weather conditions that weren't ideal. All five of our guys were All-Conference. What else can I say?"

Cloverdale finished second behind fantastic outings from their number-one golfer Chris Arnold as well as their number two Gary Williams. Struggling with his short game early, Arnold righted the ship down the stretch and finished in second overall with a 75 for the course. Williams came in eighth after a round of 86. As a team, Cloverdale shot 352.

South Putnam finished fourth, registering a team score of 368, just one stroke behind the third place Cascade squad. Dylan Gilbert, South Putnam's best finisher at sixth place, found his stride through the middle part of the course to finish with an 82. On fifteen, Gilbert took a low iron to plop a sixty-five yard shot down just inches from the hole. His teammate Derek Chestnut ended the match with a pair of 45's on the front and back nine respectively.

North Putnam struggled with the long rough all day, seeing two contestants barely come in the century mark. Jon Willard used a 54 and 45 to reach his final of 99, while Colton Smith had 49 and 50 for his identical final score. The Cougars tallied 402 team strokes for the match, 16 better than last place Monrovia.
