Oscar Martin Jr., 83, Roachdale, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011 with his family by his side.

Mr. Martin was born on Nov. 19, 1927 in Parke County to Oscar Martin and Helen Gosnell Martin.

He was a long-time custodian in what is now the North Putnam School Corporation. Mr. Martin served at Clinton Center School, Russellville, Bainbridge Elementary and North Putnam Middle School.

Mr. Martin was baptized at Clinton Falls Methodist Church in 1944 and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Jr. and longtime companion Judi Blaydes enjoyed attending gospel music concerts, trips to state parks and traveling.

Surviving are his companion Judi Blaydes of Roachdale; three sons, Robert "Joe" Martin and wife, Paula of Bainbridge, Gary L. "Gus" Martin and wife, Pat of Pittsboro and Michael R. Martin and wife Mindy of Avon; a brother, Jim Martin of Bloomington; a sister, Wilma Cruse of Rockville; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, John Martin, Dorothy McCullough, Donald Martin, Imogene Crawley and Kenneth Martin, who died while serving his country during World War II.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Bowen officiating. Interment will follow at Clinton Falls Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 6 p.m.
