David L. Richard, 82, Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Hendricks Regional Health.

David was born on June 24, 1929 in Morgan County to Hannibal D. and Hallie E. Johnson Richard.

On June 25, 1950, he was married to Wilma Jean Scobee at the Bainbridge Christian Church by Rev. Jesse Dunn. One week prior to his death, his family and friends celebrated his 82nd birthday and 61st wedding anniversary.

He was retired from IBM Greencastle, with later employment in computer sales with his son Gary. He had also been employed with Midland Co-op in Bainbridge.

David was a longtime member of the Bainbridge Christian Church, where he served as deacon and youth leader. Later he became a member of First Baptist Church Greencastle.

He had been very active in the Masonic Lodge and Bainbridge Lions Club. He also took an active role in Little League and Boy Scouts.

Surviving him are his wife Wilma; son Gary Richard and wife JoEllen of Brighton, Mich.; daughter-in-law Jenny Richard of Danville; four grandchildren, Christy (Matt) Choate of Brighton, Misty Richard of Brighton, Breanna (Jason) Henry of Avon and Kyle Richard of Danville; four great-grandchildren, Lauren, Matthew, Dominick and Makayla; stepsister Donna Mae (Bob) Miles of Heritage Lake; longtime family friends; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Greg of Danville, in December 2007, his parents, stepmother Lucille Richard, brother Bob Richard and aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, 404 Judson Drive, Greencastle, with Pastor Randy McNeely and Dr. C.T. Steiner officiating. Interment will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.
